The name of Canada has been in use since the founding of the French colony of Canada in the 16th century. The name originates from a Saint-Lawrence Iroquoian word kanata (or canada) for “settlement”, “village”, or “land”.
Canada has a long history of volunteering which is considered an altruistic activity where an individual or group provides for no financial or social gain “to benefit another person, group or organization”. In Canada, its part of who we are. It has allowed this little settlement to flourish by promoting the goodness in others, improving human life, and committing time and resources to the betterment of others.
Volunteering has as many positive benefits for the volunteer as well as for the person or community served.
Canada is a nation built on volunteerism.
Get involved, give back, contribute to your village.
